max 7 walkthrough cam broken

ok this is wierd. ive been using max 7 for a few months, and recently got into using the walkthrough cam to navigate my models. find it so much easier to control than the standard perspective tools. anyway, all was good, and i even found out you just press the up arrow to select the tool, which is even easier. chuffed. unfortunately it is now broken.

 

now if i press uparrow, it selects walkthrough cam, and if i press it again, it sometimes registers a tiny move forwards, but then refuses to budge again (there is an arrow indicator that tells you when you are moving, and that doesnt appear after the first split second.) all the other arrow keys work as usual.

 

its not a broken key, since it works for everything else.

 

the key is bound to "select walkthrough cam" option, so im not sure how it could also be set to "move forwards" as well, not that i can find it in the keyboard shortcuts anyway.

 

restarted many times, different models etc. no joy.

 

ive also reset the ui and keyboard layouts to default, still nothing.

 

dammit. was really getting into using that tool!

 

any ideas folks?
