Cesar R
I was wondering what were the equivalent software packages for 3ds max and rhino 3D for the MacOS platform. (modeling and rendering GI and all that good stuff) to produce images and models like the ones that can be produced with the above mentioned. Rick
Cesar For general purpose 3d architectural modelling, relatively complete nurbs functionality and very good ray trace rendering formZ is really the best out there. For radiosity and global illumination Cinema 4d with the advanced render module. The import from formZ via the vrml format is relatively painless and will bring in a stuctured module with textures applied/mapped. For more advanced nurbs functionality which goes well beyond Rhino's capibilities look at SolidThinking. BTW if you're using Vectorworks for a Cad program Cinema 4d has a special bundle which adds Vectorworks import. Good luck Rick

Cesar R
ok, i downloaded the c4d demo and so far it looks very promising. as far a cad program to go along with it I am going to look at vector works, although archicad is my current packege . I looked at the solid thinking page wow that software is really expensive. What other precisions modelers are there for mac?
Rick
Cesar formZ is the best. If you were doing consumer product products or automotive surfaces or something like that solidThinking would be worth every nickel (btw-the midrange version is pretty complete and not that expensive). For general purpose modelling (which includes by and large the feature set of Rhino) formZ is great stuff. It pays to buy the Renderzone version because you can apply your textures in formZ and bring your model into C4d fully textured and mapped. Cesar R
has anyone tried vector works with C4D? I read the it links like ADT links to Viz but even better.
Chris H
Hi Cesar, Our office is currently using VW and C4D for our 3D work. I can't comment on the ADT and Viz relationship (strictly a Mac office), but the transition between VW and C4D is pretty good from what I can tell so far. If you have any specific questions, feel free to ask here or email me. Good luck with your decision. Chris
