Devin Johnston
I'm doing a rendering that needs to be 780x6066, it's a night shot of a 40 story office building and it's got about 300 lights in it. Needless to say I'm having a real problem getting Final Render to render this thing out. I know that within Max you are able to render out different sections of a rendering using View, Selection, Region, Crop, Blowup, Box Selected, Region Selected, and Crop Selected. What I want to do is render out the image in pieces and use Photoshop to put them back together. I need to maintain the same aspect ratio, and keep the background image to the correct size. I think I need to use Box selected but I've never used it before and I want to make sure I'm doing this right. Any ideas?
Tim Nelson
You could also use backburner to 'render to strips'. This should work even if you only have 1 computer. It will divide the render into as many strips as you tell it and then recompile them once it is all done.
Devin Johnston
The only problem with that is I can't use distributed rendering and it would take forever on a single machine. I've also had problems with some computers sending back strips that are a little different from all the others, have you ever seen that?

I've had that happen with Vray before. My problem was that the slave wasn't getting access to the saved irradience map. Once that was cleared up it seemed to work fine. I don't use backburner anymore though since I don't do a lot of animations & DR is working pretty good in Vray now.
