Dissertation Help!!

This is my dissertation idea.

In the beginning of computer game history the player’s involvement in his surrounding were only in a narrative form. This text driven architecture left much to the players own imagination to place him within the confines of his environment. Today’s standards are much higher with fully evolved cities that have developed from a greater understanding of architecture and the influences on it. Designers are required to think about the environment from a point of view of people vehicles, urban density, social interaction, religion and politics and so on.

As technology and skills developed over the years the architectural has moved forward to keep pace. From the simple plan view of maze type games, to sectional view platform games, from simple first person games to 3d how do each of them allow the player to be more and more involved in their artificial environment.

I intend to look at the history of computer game development and the way that architecture had been used to give this sense of place to the player. I will be looking at seminal games through the decades and genres that have developed the player’s involvement through the use of architecture and space from

I will be looking at the Magnavox Odyssey the first games console with ‘Pong’ back in the 70’s through to the very latest Eon technology in fully interactive real 3d environments.

the problem i am now having is trying to find enough reading material to persuade the tutor to let me do it. So if anyone knows any relevant books or papers on the subject could they point me in the right direction. Also if anyone has an opinion feel free to say what u think, its always good to get other opinions
