Trying to add some interest

The elevations of this block didn't offer a very exciting render so I'm going for a slightly more dramatic viewpoint than normal.

 

Still to add a lot of things to the foreground (grass, shrubs, tree shadows etc) but I think the lighting might be too bland. Need stronger shadows/sunlight?

if u have problems with facing reflective maps into windows - just leave them semitransparent and finish them in photoshop; the result will be much better with a little time

white wall texture seems off-the-scale,

where are all the shadows in this sunny day?

The reflections are from a large image mapped polygon opposite the building. It's just there till I get a site photograph (when the snow clears up!)

 

I deliberately used no direct light as the white roughcast was looking really blown out but I think I need to add one and just make the surface receive less light.

 

Still very much a wip. I have time on this and I'm experimenting. Thanks for all the input.

i agree with Dibbers, add sun and drop shadows right to left. that are going to add more move to the imagen after add the trees+shadows(in the wall)

 

If the sun burn too much the white color, try to set a low values for the skylight. maybe more show more sky and a little more ground with some shadow trees in first plane.

nice work here.... but still no shadows for trees, wrong reflection on left window, the first sky looked much better, the white material is now better, what happened to the pavement ?

all in all the first image looked nicer but the shadows in the second is better ;)

Sorry I don't think I've been very clear:

The landscaping/paths etc are all just rough at the minute. The trees are just placeholders as I'm going to put a lot of landscaping in.

 

Yeah I agree the sky was better as a jpeg. I'm using a gradient as I keep changing the viewing angle.

 

What is it that's wrong with the reflection?

Hey IC, nice progress... but,

what is still wrong with the camera?second is better, but still very weird... I think you should change the params to a more natural view, even if U lose the last house.. they are all the same anyway:)

 

As for light, it does look better on 2nd, try making the summary of your 2 lights intensity around 1.3. For a sunny day it's more than enough, and you won't get white washed out. Though this suggestion depends on the renderer, I guess.

I would've lighten up the reflection in ground floor windows i.e. the horizontal sky should appear almost white

I don,t understand this dramatic repeating shadow on 1st floor corners ( coming from the roof as I realize) - wouldn't it be good to take control upon it?

I am not convinced for placing horizont above human's eye view...

I quite like the shadow from the roof-it accentuates idea of the big overhang.

Also, I think I prefer the first viewpoint. With a standard view it just lacks any impact (thread title)

Nice stuff :) I like the first view better because it offers more dramatic camera angle, and also it's more towards a human scale. (2nd image seems to be the observer floating in space)

 

I got one question though, the roof. How do you seal roof like that? I really like the design of roof, but it seems like the roof is open with the purlin coming out like that, if it rains, there would be lots of problem sealing it. You got an section of that? I am very interested in the design. :)
