seismograph
http://www.digit-life.com/articles2/profcards/profcards-09-2002-svp.html If it's true, then there is no need to buy an expensive pro 3d card. It's a fact that you pay much more for the same hardware with different drivers when you buy a quadro or fireGL instead a GF4 or Radeon. I also think that a single system is far enough for a *workstation*. If you use your machine most time only for rendering then you can think about buying a dual box. seismograph
to aswer few of your questions... Quadro4 900XL seems to be eqal to a Gf4 TI4600. Quadro comes with faster drivers and faster memspeed but you can tweak a TI4600 to use the faster drivers and you can overclock the card in most cases. There is a new wildcat7xxx on the way .. maybe this is something for you. All newer cards have dual monitor support and most of them have an DVi port to use your card on a digital TFT. I think SGi o2 is an outdated platform and to be honest, sgi is far away from it's position in the early days of CG. I never touched a boxx - workstation, but i know that dual xeons performs very well .. they are expensive since this plattform was designed for servers. AHaidar
The only problem with the Soft Quadro 4/RivaTuner hack is that they haven't released the full version yet. If you check the notes on the Guru3d site you will see that the scripts that enable the hardware acceleration for wireframe views and some other Quadro features are not yet available for download. So don't buy a GF4 today and expect to get the same performance as the reviewer. They didn't mention how stable the new Soft Quadro patch is but in my experience a Soft Quadro GF2 was less stable than a Quadro2 Pro (Gloria III).
