carlangas
Hi all, I really need help with this as the deadline for this is today and I can't figure this out by myself. (see pic) At first I thought the black squares apearing were probably the caused by the pond water plane. it was originaly created with splines in autocad, well I redrew the thing using a regular polyline reimported the pline into max 6, it still gives me those black squares when I render. I deleted the pond water plane and have messed with different raytraced materials and still those black squares appear. I am using light tracer, my glass is just a raytraced std mat. with no transparency, I started noticing yellow blotches after I created and tweeked the water material, which was a std. mat with a bump map and a reflect-refract in the reflect slot. I have spent hours trying to fix this. whats likely causing this problem and how do I correct it? can I do some sort of purge or something to clean up the file? thanks a lot, hope you experts can get me out of this mess
Tomas
Carlos, what materail or what object is on the right side of the deck. There are two noticably bigger black blotches. It looks to me that the rest is comming from it. If you have some really black difuse color (255,255,255), try something less extreme. Just a thoughts, Tomas. lambros
Have you tried applying a new standard material and rendering again? You will have to isolate the cause. If it renders ok, then there is a problem with the raytrace material. I see that the black spots appearing are in the lower part of the image, where bounces take effect (I assume that you are using bounces with the lightracer). Could you please post your settings (lightracer and raytrace material)? That would help!
animart
carlangas
Im using 2 bounces, rays at 200, for the raytrace, ive used several materials, from scratch, raytrace and standard. i cant post all the settings, you see im at work now and im doing this on the side so I do all of it at home. I only tried changing the water material since is started giving me problems afterward, but ill try isolating the glass as well, didnt know rpc´s could give you those kinds of problems as well. lambros
rpcs can be a real pain using gi, but I haven't experienced any problems with lightracer. So I suspect that the problem is the raytrace thing. Sometimes there are problems with self illuminating materials, so check if you have any

mtb0506
hey carlos, have you checked out your raytracer settings? they may be going over the max depth, and thus filtering the bounces to a black color. it can be found in the render scene dialogue under raytracer. carlangas
I set it at 3, default 9, are we talking about the same setting?
abicalho
This problem usually happens when one object in the scene has incorrect UVs. Add a new UVW Modifier to the grass, the skydome, and see if that fixes the problem. To find which object causes it, hide a couple objects and render, until the black squares go away. carlangas
I didnt know you could add uvs to the skydome, how do you do that?
animart
