Iain Denby
Hey guys, how do I get to the system restore wizard in XP? I think my pc was hacked a few days ago. Little programs have been installed on my system which seem to re-create themselves with a different name every time I boot up. So I need to try to get my system back to how it was...but how? Chaz
If you have system restore on. Start - All Programs - Accessories - System Tools - System Restore

xgarcia
Be sure to run ZoneAlarm or some type of software firewall that alerts you when something is trying to connect in or out of your box (ideally you should have a hardware firewall as well, ie firewall router). Turn off the preview window in your email client (Outlook , Mozilla...). Check message sources before opening suspicious emails. I'm so paranoid I check almost all incoming emails before opening them. I've never had a virus. Over the last two weeks I've received the My Worm virus email about 10 times, each time checking the source and seeing under "content...7 bit". Delete. Lastly, run Ad-aware (google search it, it's freeware) to get those data miners off your hard drive. Glad you could resolve this with system restore, but I wouldn't depend on this "feature" of XP. In fact, i've got it turned off.
David Knourek
Yea I fully agree with xgarcia in that I dont't trust anything "automated" from M$ as usually its more of a hinderance than a help. -dave
