Brian Cassil
Do you mean animated water like ripples in a pond or pool or animated water like waterfalls and fountains?

ramy
yes, animated ripples or waves in a small pool. I tried to key the scale of a ripple gizmo but it did not work. Any help would be great.
Wayne Harney
There's an outstanding tutorial at http://www.vizdepot.com. The animated maps are even more convincing with vray displacement and caustics.

ramy
i came up with an alternate solution. I added a bump map to a raytrace shader, applied the shader to my surface, and animated the geometry to move. if it's a circular fountain, just rotate the plane of water. if it's a trough then animate it by translating it forward or back. This was a quick solution. It doesn't look too realistic if you watch it carefully but it works well enough for a flybye.
Brian Cassil
http://www.cgarchitect.com/upclose/article22_TB.asp What you are doing sound a lot like what Ted Boardman describes in this link. You may want to check it out.
