Hey guys,

I've updated my gallery with a new 'flashier' format. It was really easy to put together (ok it took me a while to figure out but that's just because I'm an website idiot) and best of all its a free download. You'll see the link at the bottom right of my site.

I'm totally happy with this as far as content. I don't need a long spiel about my company or how I do it, or other things that you commonly see on 3d websites. The only thing I really need to show is the work itself, although I do still need to add my logo & contact info somewhere at the top & I don't know how to go about doing that yet. Hopefully I'll figure it out soon, otherwise people might think "hey nice renders, but who is this guy?".

Awesome! I agree with keeping it very simple. Logo and contanct information would be the only other things I would add. I too am a HTML idiot. Would you mind sharing how you did this?

Basically all I did was follow the instructions on their website. Other than that, I just took all my renderings and did a batch action on them in PS to properly size them and save for web. A good tip is to have the images the same size as the display size. Otherwise they will have to be shrunk which makes them look really aliased.

Then you upload everything via ftp and run the php file - that creates the thumbs for you automatically. I ran into several errors when doing this but it basically meant that I had to change my permissions on the folders so they could be read & written to.

So in all, it probably took 2-3 hours for me to figure out, but was definitely worth it. My old html page was too embarassing.

Let me know if you want to try this & need any help.

Hi Tim,

You have very nice renders, but the jpeg compression isn't very good quality. The images seemed aliased to me. Nice interface though.

As for information about your company, would you send a brochure through the mail to a prospect without an introductory letter?

hello where you put your webpage? they have instruccion to do that?

very nice page

Hi Fernando. I'm not quite sure I understand your questions. If you go to the website for the plug-in they will have instructions on how to do it there. The link for their site is on the bottom right corner of my gallery.

Hmm, thats interesting about the aliasing. I was having a problem with that at first, but I thought I solved it. Now I don't notice any significant jaggies like I used to. Is there one image that has it more than the others? Does anybody else have the same problem?

Also, a good point to consider about the intro. letter. I suppose it would be good to say a little something, but I'm just happy to have this for now. I wish I was a web expert because then I could experiment with different layouts, but even this is a big step for me. Usually when I'm talking to a prospective client though, there is usually some type of common ground between us so I like to either talk to them in person or write them a personal email to tell them more about myself & my work. Then I would also include a link for my website that contains the real core of my business. Plus I hate seeing 3d sites where the layout, verbage & images never change. It's boring! This way is super easy for me to keep current & up to date with my latest & greatest work. A good point nonetheless, and I will definitely keep it in mind.

I noticed that if your browser window ins't big enough, it automatically shrinks the image size down, and thats when you start seeing jaggies again. Could that have something to do with it?

Nicely clean Tim,

as Fran stated, an introduction would be nice and shouldn't be too much work, same counts for a contactpage. If you're not albe to take care of that, I do have standard php contactpages (flash) in my library, black background/white inputfields (fits right in your site). The AA issue in your site is a flash habit. Pixels are converted to vector and that is what causes the edges, if there are any, it looks good to me.

The works, I really like your style and if I have to pick a favorite render, that would be the sunglasses-shop. Great atmosphere....

Good luck.

Wow thanks Dennis. That's still one of my favorites too. And believe it or not, that was actually my first side job doing doing a rendering for somebody else. Really it's what gave me the push into business on my own. That was the only render I ever did using Viz radiosity. But there were so many blotches & artifacts I painted about 1/2 of it in Photoshop. Plus all the sunglasses are PS'd in too.

Thanks for the offer about the contacts page. But I'm afraid I wouldn't even know how to put the 2 pages together. I will probably have to hire somebody to get me beyond this point. Shouldn't take more than a few minutes for somebody who knows what they are doing, but I, of course, don't. :)

Yes, that's what was happening. The window has to be pretty big for it not to resize. On my 19" monitor (1280x960 res), I have to either maximize IE, or close the side menu. Anyway, nice interface.

I just looked at your link again and I see you added your logo and a contact sheet. It's perfect now! Everything someone would need to see about you and nothing they don't.

By the way, congrats to ya.

Thanks Brian - you too! I had a friend help me out to get the splash screen. The only thing is he forgot to add my email address. :p I'll be switching out the logo soon with a little more refined version. I know a few people didn't like it but I'm going to keep going with it.
