M7: architectural materials

Hi All,

I noticed using architectural materials that the settings are NOT saved in material libraries nor when copied from one material to another.

Say I want a 'stone' preset, but with a shineness of 50... As soon as I copy the material into another slot, the 50 disappears to the default settings again...

Anyone knows about this and how to avoid it?

i did a quick test of that. you are right. if u copy a USER DEFINED material the copy works fine, if you use another (platic, stone etc etc) when u copy the settings back to default.

try this. if u are using a platic copy it, but before change ur PLASTIC to USER DEFINED then copy it and your problem going to be solved.

i never used that materials, but letme know if that works for you.

Hi Evert and Enrique,

I just tried it here and the material was saved and restored correctly - when I create a new material it's new, but when I save or load a material that I have already setup, it doesn't reset, keeping the setup. It even remembers the template I chose.

Can you give me more details - what version of 3dsmax, etc.

max6

i just open material/Architectural and i pick Plastic and i modify the shiness to 50

after that i drop the material to a new slot and the shininess in the new material back to 90.

i dont load load it from the library or from any other place where i can seve it . in fact i dont use MR or architectural materials.

My architectural materials do the same thing. They reset after copying them to a new slot (Max 6 SP1)...there are also times I've noticed that the triangles in the corner of the material slot denoting an assignment in the scene don't go away even when there are no materials with that material on them. Very odd behaviour. Did anyone find a solution to this?
