fi3er
hi there, anyone knows howto import/modify geometry from rhino in order to create radiosity solution in max and render in max? i have tried 3ds, dxf to import - makes giant geometries if I want to render with details i have triet IGES - much lighter, but radiosity produces strange artifacts, seems like nurbs translation rhino-max doesnot work well... any hints? cheers guys daniel fi3er fi3er.com

oluv
i often use acis format to get my rhino-models into acad, then i save as dwg and let max do the meshing. i prefer the meshing from max than the one from rhino, see the meshing-comparison i once did: http://news2.mcneel.com/scripts/dnewsweb.exe?cmd=article&group=rhino&item=182687&utag= afterwards i also run the optimize-modifier on the meshes and the result is nearly perfect. unfortunately all layer-information is lost when exporting to acis. so you have to export your model in parts and assign layers in acad afterwards... Fran
Hi Daniel, You have coplaner surfaces. Can you post a screen grab of your brep import dialog? Make sure "Two Sided Trimmed Surfaces" is disabled in the import dialog. Why are you using a 2-sided material? Are you having problems with inverted normals from Rhino geometry? If so, use the Dir command to check normals or use the AdvancedDisplay command in Rhino 3 to enable coloring of backfaces.
