importing plans in c4d?

Recommended Posts

You just have to pay attention to the scales used in both programs AND those of the export and import functions.

If you look at preferences in Cinema you will find a list of import/export filters that have various settings. Make sure the scale setting is correc in C4D, and that you know what units you are working in.

This is what i do, I export dwg file from autocad into Rhino (it has to be saved as 2000 for Rhino to open it) then in rhino extrude and make the walls and such. Then save as 3ds and open in c4d. The whats great about this is that you can keep modeling in rhino and as long as you dont move any of orginal models you can import to c4d in the exact place you modeled in rhino, just merge the 3ds file. Also the pivot point will be located in where the center axis is in rhino so to move an object in c4d you have to find the axis. A great such an great plugin to use is centeraxis I have it shortcut in c4d so i can selected any object and make the pivot point in the middle of the object.

hope this helps.

[C4D & *.DWG] Can Cinema 4D do Autocad *.DWG?

Yes it can!

You have two easy options to import DWG files into Cinema 4D.

1 - Save your *.dwg drawing natively from within AutoCAD by executing the command "Save AS" and save your *.dwg as *.dxf

(Prep the drawing first, by eliminating unnecessary objects, deleting duplicate objects, purging unused objects and elements, deleting unnecessary information, simplify your layers (fewer the better), also note some object groups do not convert over when you open them in Cinema 4D. You may need to explode rectangles and such objects.)

2 - Get on the internet, open your favorite search engine (I use google) and search for DWG2DXF - you should get a least three shareware or commercial programs that can do the conversion for you without the need to own AutoCAD. Owning an AutoCAD version is the preferred method because you can do the editing I described above very easily natively.

3. Open the newly created *.dxf file in cinema and you are done!
