Alexander
Hello My name is Alex. I have been engaged in 3d design already for 4 years and you know most of the work was connected with visualization. And here it came time that I got interested in ART. Well, pretty soon I realized that the stuff I had been making and the stuff most people make is far not the ART. I think the whole of ARCHITECTURE and DESIGN lacks ideas. I mean that design should not be just functional, it should be SENSITIVE and CRETATIVE. If it's an interior it should make you feel like you've entered another world and forget the outer one. It should make you FEEL the atmosphere. Could anyone help me in realizing my crazy original ideas or suggest some way of development? Thanx a lot
kid
visionary architects need visionary clients. go find some of those, or, fund the work yourself. or you could do some real thinking and find ways of making amazing art without the need of financiers. ala andy goldsworthy, nancy holt... to take what is lying around you and making it into art takes REAL talent. just an idea. good luck. Richard McCarthy
I agree with KID. Also you have to remember....visionary architecture is all fine and dandy (if it transport you to another alien world as you said..) BUT... you have to rememeber people will probably LIVE THERE or WORK THERE....It's like living/working in a theme park. Seeing the same thing over and over.... is a problem every architectural designer face. How to transend something from mere gimmick to masterpiece.. ipdesigner
*You have to consider also that you are making the COMFORT for the client, but think also the VICE VERSA ideas. Im talking about the both sides. Try to set example of yourself also as the CLIENT. Are you comfortable? Are you satisfied? Dont just look for what will be the 'revenue' of your work, instead the 'potential' as the 'main' factor.
Crazy Homeless Guy
there are a lot of great, beautiful buildings. there are a lot of bad, ugly builodings. budget, building codes, client taste and exceptance, as well as the talent of he designer all effect the quality of the building. ....but the biggest cause of bad architecture in my opinion. developers. the achilles heal of architecture. they are usually not concerened about the art of architecture, they are driven by profit. they are bussiness people. unfortunalty the lay person does not understand design, so they except what the developer makes available to them, and therefore think that is what they shuold have. it is a problem that just spins on itself. some companies see the benefit of interesting and quality design, and will seek a designer that is talented enough to make it happen. quality design today is about more than just quality space, form and materials. it is also about creating a building that respects is enviromental friendly, budget conscious, inovative, provacitive, well thought out and well constructed. quality architecture is about more than bling bling. I agree 100%...i had this experienced before when i worked in a construction company where run by an architect!, I was with the design dept. and of course architecturally we are main concern of the aesthetic and comfort of the project. BUT since, a developer/contractor is on the BUSINESS thing, my boss dont mind it anymore especially if we are on the construction phase already. He tehn now look for the 'most reasonable parts' no matter medium-LOW standard....its very bad!!...good designs goes with poor quality!!
Sawyer
I am glad to hear developers getting a bad rap. From what I have seen in the ofiice developers control everything creative and the scope of the project. The architect does the "design" and carries a huge deal of liablity often on projects they didn't have the control to make better or different in any way. bokkins
I agree with you guys. but always remember, that we have had training in the field of architecture, it will always depend on us on how to advance creativity in our designs - that's where "research and development" comes into the picture. these developers uses only technique that's readily available or has been around for years, what if we make something that will revolutionalize construction - wont they use it? do you think? let us always carry with us the burden(if its what we think) of being creative in what we do. Tommy L
Alexander, I find your views on architecture quite unusual. Most of my favourite architecture does not envelop the user and have the interior "forget the outide world exists". I believe architecture should enhance the human interaction and cohesion with the environment. Generally, natures beauty cannot even be emulated, let alone replaced. Hence the modern love affair with glass. Architecture should play a passive, not intrusive role in daily life. 3d is nowhere near as complex as designing successful spaces. I take my hat off to all architects.
