edub
I need to render out an image sequence to be comped for DVD. I've been told that I need the 720x486 D1 frame aspect ratio, but since my animation is set up for 16:9 AR (originally 640x360) I am confused how this is to be accomplished. Do I need render out in 864x486 (16:9), and then squash it to 720x486, which will then look correct once it's made into DVD? I've had this explained to me a couple of times already, but I can't seem to understand the underlying concept. Does someone know of a good reference for this? Or can someone explain this to me in simple steps? I would really appreciate this. Thanks
edub
ok, after a bit more research I've come to the conclusion that I have to render at 720x486 w/ a PAR of 1.2. This will then be shown as the correct 16:9 FAR of 864x486 on the DVD. can anyone back me up on this one? Thanks in advance
Chad Warner
The aspect ratio I've been using is 720x480 at 1.2, which equals out to 846x480. And that's mainly becaus photoshop and premiere both have that resolution as a preset. -Chad

Bugga_Guy
I highly recommend 720x480 for widescreen not 728x486!!!
edub
I highly recommend 720x480 for widescreen not 728x486!!! any particular reason? would it possible to do a batch action in P-shop if I need to convert 4500 frames from 720x486 to 720x480... I mean, because of the 1.2 PAR, would the image get any significant distortion? (doesn't really matter if it's off by a couple of pixels in this case, as far as I'm concerned)
ecastillor
i wouldnt recommend a pshop action for this, because you would be modifying each image... try a batch resizer like CoffeeCup PixConverter 2.5 or something like that
Tim Nelson
i wouldnt recommend a pshop action for this, because you would be modifying each image... try a batch resizer like CoffeeCup PixConverter 2.5 or something like that Photoshop can do batches too. Just point it to the right folder & tell it what action to do.
