Craig Ramsay
Hey guys, im having a bit of a problem with max 7. Lets say I create a rectangle then un-check the "start new shape" box, I then draw 3 more rectangles inside the larger rectangle and extrude it. The result is clean geometry as expected with no extra edges but as soon as I convert the shape to an editable poly extra edges appear across some of the faces that can't be removed! Does anyone have a solution to this? I'm sure it didn't happen in older versions of Max. Craig
Ricardo Eloy
That happens also with other objects... I had the same problem when modeling a TV set... Unfortunatelly, the only way I came up with to solve it was creating separate objects and not attaching them to each other.
Craig Ramsay
Im sure this didn't use to happen in older versions of Max. I just got a friend to try it in Viz 2005 and there is no problem :-( Service pack 1 doesn't fix the problem either. Its a complete pain if you need to chamfer the objects edges, it screws it right up!
jucaro
I am having similar problems. Its really a pain especially when you bevel a polyface then those extra edges will become trouble. I'm quite sure it wasnt like that back in 6.
MegaPixel
While we're talking about stuff that's a pain in the $#@!, has anyone noticed that when using the "Ignore Backfaces" option in sub-object mode, that it doesn't really work all the time? I've got a imported mesh from Argos that I'm trying to clean up, and I spend half of my time clicking and clicking on what I'm trying to select - but usually pick something in the background. I never have a problem if the geometry is created in max but if you have imported geometry from another program and the rormals are not facing the correct direction then you may well have trouble with ignore back backfacing. There were no problems like that with geometry imported from ACAD back then in MAX6.
Craig Ramsay
I'm still having trouble with these pesky extra edges... anyone found a solution? It's driving me nuts
noi-pi
Its a problem really. LOL! My workaround for this is to relocate the edges. Otherwise I apply Edit Mesh modifier on top of the stack after Extrude. You can Bevel, Extrude, Cut, Chamfer, Etc etc. Its just a stripped down version of Edit Poly. Craig Ramsay
Yeah I tried that too. How can you select the visible edges without selecting the invisible ones? It takes ages not having a loop or ring function. I can't use Meshtools or CS Polytools with the edit mesh modifier either... nightmare!
noi-pi
Tricky part! Polygon sub-object, select the top poly then HIDE it. Edge sub-object, drag select the top edges then SAVE it on Named Selection sets. Back to poly sub-object, UNHIDE. Then back again to Edge and search Edge on the Named Selection Sets.
