DeadPencil
I am currently conducting some research for a university study which is looking at how architects are adopting a digital approach to design and using this together with more traditional techniques. Digital Design, BIM and computer simulations are changing the way architects work and I aim to find out to what degree current architects feel that these technologies are altering the way they design structures and what implications this may have on the future of traditional design techniques. The main objectives of my research are; To gather information on the current technologies available in the digital architectural design field and to investigate how different architectural practices mix those with traditional design approaches and techniques. To research advantages and limitations of this "hybrid design" approach in comparison to the traditional, and whether this approach is practice tailored or generic. To critically analyse and assess the impact that this hybrid design strategy may have on the future of architectural design. I have developed an online survey with 10 questions regarding digital design and how you feel it may change the way you work in the future or indeed how it may have already changed your practice. If you could please spend 10-20 mins and answer the questions in the survey as thoroughly as you can, you would be providing me with an excellent basis upon which to form my report. http://www.deadpencil.com/questionnaire/ Thank you so much for any help, advice or research you can offer me. P.S. can anyone suggest any other communities where I could submit a link to my survey? maybe someone knows of a REVIT, ArchiCAD or CATIA community which I could try? mzagorski
I wrote a thesis on a pretty similar subject back in 2003 while I finished my Architecture degree in the UK... "The effects of technology on the practice of architecture".
DeadPencil
mzagorski, yes I came across your postings in this forum. I sent you a PM (or email!?) through forum a while ago when I was first considering this topic since on one of the postings you said that you might offer your thesis to anyone who was interested. I am certainly interested as I'm sure you know that any information you can get is worth it's weight in gold.
afegadi
hi there Im also doing something like that we are making a user manual to visual graphics based upon the need in computers, and how they have an inffluence un our design itself, but also we dont forget the hand made sketches, to be mixed up with scanner and other xerox copies i will send you some exercises of the students, some experiments a made with them, so they could make great presentations like CAD or CorelDraw panel, without using a computer, only fotocopies through layers and to make the manual, we are making some background research at the University i work as a professor at the Universidad de America, in the area of visual expression, and urban planning i think we could make some exchange of information later on, with some spare minutes a will fullfill your questionaire, i enjoy watching your web page
