Rendering Multiple Set-Ups

Hi,

I'm new to Max and would like to render various camera set-ups overnight. Is there a way to set up Max (on one PC only) to render Camera 01, Camera 02, 03 ... ?

Same materials / lighting, just different views ...

Thanks.

just read an overview on it and what it's all about and what it does.

then look how to put things into sequence in the render stack. it's fairly simple stuff.

i cant give you exact specifics as i dont have max with me at the mo.

You could also just animate one camera to the various positions you want, i.e., Frame 1 is shot 01, Frame 2 is shot 02, etcetera... The only thing you need to do is note the XYZ positions of both camera and target for all of your shots. Then with the Animate button on, advance a frame and enter in the proper coords.

Rendering>Video Post

Click the teapot button (Add Scene Event) and select the first Camera. On Video Post Parameters, set the VP Start Time equal to 0, and VP End Time equal to 0. Press OK

Now the Camera 01 Scene event has been added. Click on it to select it, then click on the button with the arrow pointing down (Add Image Output Event) and click on Files and select a name for the output to be saved. Then, again select 0 as VP Start Time and VP End Time. Click ok

Now, repeat the process for each camera (no scene event must be selected in order to have the Add Scene Event button available). Just remember to adjust the VP Start and End times respectively. Finally, hit render button, adjust the settings according to the number of cameras you got (Range should be set from 0 to ...number of cameras-1).

Hope that helps, it is not that difficult

Of course the other option is based on if you have your system setup for the backburner renderfarm. Quite often I will load the renderfarm with images and deselect the "use all servers" option. Then just turn on server on your own machine. If I have a a few renderings that will complete in a short time (i.e. complete multiple shots overnight).... rather than booting up our rendering farm I'll just point them all at my own machine......

This is also a great way to multitask, if you have alot of renderings to crank out, you can que up your own system for backburner and let in run in the background while you do side work such as post process and photoshop work. Assuming you've got the hardware to do all that at once.....

But like I said that requires having backburner already setup..... otherwise videopost is the way to go.....

  • 1 year later...

Just a note for anyone using Vray out there...

The steps listed in lambros's post work perfect, but make sure in the render settings (Renderer - V-Ray: Frame Buffer) you DO NOT check "Enable built-in frame buffer". All of my saved images have been rendering black for the last hour and I couldn't figure out why - finally switched back to the Max window and now things work fine. If anyone knows a way around this (being able to use the Vray frame buffer in Video Post) let me know. Hope this helps.
