doodler
Go out and take high res images of any tree you need, if possible try and photograph the tree with as much neutral background colour as possible, NOT GREEN! and open that image in PS(im using CS so i hope this function is available in older versions) duplicate the layer then use the backfround eraser....simple its a great tool use a larger brush head as this is quicker... for accurate results place a layer below yor tree layer and make it red or purple. this way you can see what your deleting

So far, the best way, imho, is from a PS Bible, Deke McClelland wrote. Works for hair also, so U can make peeps that way as well. It's not a 'two click' effort, but a real pain sometimes.. no wonder alpha trees/maps are so expensive. It maybe worth a tutorial...
PostPS
i guess he wants us to fix that by zooming in to it and fix it individually, if not by pixels....nice tip though, but i have to agree with these guys that its not exactly as simple as it seems. doodler
Its about planing, if you plan your final image you will have an idea of what trees your going to be after, i find the pen tool and background eraser are the best tools for this job, it applies to people also, i dont see point in buying aby image librarys there are plenty of people cars and trees out there in the big wide world, carry your camera with you as often as possible, you will soon have a good stock library and you will save lots of cash too....which is nice. PostPS
i have to agree that it is not necessary to buy these images as it is indeed readily available with just a click of your digicam...but it still sounds really hard to do...is there anybody out there who has an idea on how to easily remove that background? especially those between the leaves and branches? Andy Hickes
Make a small "leaf" brush and use eraser tool in brush mode and erase small holes randomly.
