Tim Nelson
On Viz2005 the crashes usually happens when I close the program. An error reporting box will pop up with an error like: The program has performed an illegal operation. I got into the habit of saving the file before exiting just in case it might corrupt the file. Will be updating to Viz2006 soon and see what happens. OS: WinXP Pro SP2 Hardware: Dual Xeon 2.4GHz, 1GB RAM I get those too sometimes, but my problem now is different. Strange though because it still only happens on some files, although I can't find anything in common with the ones that are crashing.
ihabkal
the problem with software companies is that they make running, authorising, dealing with licenses so hard on people who pay them, while people who use cracked copies in other countries have it easy and no problems of that sort. aren't they going to learn to make it easy on us? DO I have to call technical support 6 times a year?
Brolloks
Although it may seems stupid to do... If the cracked version of Viz2005 works without the crashes AND you have a legal Viz2005 copy, what's to stop you from using the cracked version? It's not the solution to the original issue of software not working faultlessly but it would save on the annoying crashes, extra coffee and overtime... Hope to see it resolved on Viz2006.... Anybody using it on WinXP Pro with SP2?
gookeeper
Hey Guy, I used to have that problem when I was using an older Matrox video card. It would crash & then sometimes corrupt the file. As soon as I switched to an Nvidia card, the problem went away. Tim, I use a nvidia quadro 980 XGL So i don't understand. it not only Viz i get problems, outlook and word, AutoCAD 2005, all will crash about 2 times each day, sometimes more. I'll give you my setup to see if anything you can see stands out xeon dual 3.0 Windows 2000 Pro Sp2 nvidia quadro 980 XGL 1024mb ram viz4 SP2 standalone Mc afee virus checker Probably not much help though. Tim Nelson
Woops did I say 'work like it supposed to'? I think I was a little too optimistic. Now when I am using Viz, its consuming about 40% of my cpu resources, even if I am not doing anything. As soon as I minimize, or switch to a different window, the usage goes back to normal. Tim Nelson
Wrong again. It is consistenly using that much cpu power, even when in the background.
abicalho
There has been an update available for CDilla for VIZ 4 posted in the autodesk website for months. It's in the Downloads for VIZ 4, named License RTS update: http://usa.autodesk.com/adsk/servlet/ps/dl/item?siteID=123112&id=2524942&linkID=2377704 One of the symptoms it fixes is the CPU usage spikes in Windows XP. Tim Nelson
Now I'm thinking virus or something because Viz 2006 is crashing even before it starts, no matter what file, or even just .exe file.

Tim Nelson
I cleaned the heck outta my system with Norton & another program called AntiVir - didn't really catch a whole lot though. Then I finally decided to make the move to SP2. I've held off until now because I've heard various things like it creates problems with Autodesk software etc. But so far it hasn't been a problem at all. I re-installed Viz & is working ok now, except for some big problems I am having now with Vray, which is caused by the newer version of Viz. Man, if its not one thing, its another! Thanks for your support guys!
Chad Warner
What problems are you having? I'm about to make the switch to the new version of VRay and the new version of Viz. (I figured I'd wait to switch to both, that way I'm unproductive at all once)
Tim Nelson
(I figured I'd wait to switch to both, that way I'm unproductive at all once) No joke. Well I've only worked on one project so far with the new Viz & Vray, and the biggest problem with Vray is that sometimes it will not render with the bitmaps I have in the Vray material. On one render the map will be there & if I hit render again it might not be there. On this project I am only using one material that has maps, so I don't know if this will continue for other materials with maps, or just this one. Also, there seems to be some glitches now using a multi/sub-object material with Vray materials. Sometimes you cannot drag & copy to new slots and when you do it causes the cpu to jump up to about 40-50% until you close & restart. The last thing I have noticed is that when you use Vray's VFB it will hang for maybe 5 seconds each time you do something with it i.e. close, move, zoom, save, etc. A real pain. One thing I haven't tried is installing the earlier 1.46 version instead of the current 1.47. I think I'm going to switch back to Accurender. Chad Warner
That sounds like loads of fun. I have a couple things in the works right now that I need to finish before I make the leap, so if I have anything I figure out, I'll let you know.
Tim Nelson
Hey Chad, I switched from Vray 1.47 to the last 1.46 and all my problems seem to be fixed now. I will keep you posted if anything changes though. Wow, what a relief!!!
