radiosity/photometric lights & optimized meshes

Hi, I read that in order to have better results/or just plain good results, you need to have optimized mehes. This is defined as a mesh that is created from a single obj & will not let light "escape".

My question is, I am working from floorplans (either drawn in 3DMax with splines or in CAD imposrting from there) so the walls are 1 object, but not the floor or the ceiling. Has anybody had any experience with this? Is it too bad?

By the way I do not know CAD, I just import stuff from there.

thanks
