mbr
I've helped friends, usually by building their designs. I've never done work for a client pro bono, though I've never been asked either.
ihabkal
Who here has worked on some pro bono work? I am just curious. I worked on dozens of free/unpaid jobs back in the middle east, I was also not paid on a few jobs not because the work was bad, the renderings were widely accepted by the client and his client. but mainly the reason was that I worked with a few people who would like to eat your heart out for money. I also worked in Egypt where I was a foreigner for a large 5000 employees architectural engineering firm, DarGroup, for US $3.50 an hour, being an architect, in the states they make $60+. When I quit my director said that I am like all the others before me, came, learned, and betrayed them by leaving. Knowing that maybe Jeff can understand my frustration and negative replies sometimes.. the only time I did free work and was happy about it was for friends at college. and once I was attracted to female student but she ended up marrying a rich guy who divorced her in 6 months. she got a couple of free animations. and after she told me she's not interested she kept asking for free renderings. Still to date I am working for others and making them richer and richer, while getting paid 20% at most of what I can generate. Doesn't bother me, what bothers me is when I work for someone, make him richer, and then he says he did for me and he made me what I am. and that he gave me more than I gave him. that hurts most... maybe potential employers who are reading this might think I am an @ss#$% but they didn't go through what I went through...I don't want to work for someone who doesn't trust me and doesn't appreciate me anyway. suffice it to say if you're living in an underdeveloped country, and you're young and you have dreams about the bright future, you will need to struggle real hard. It would be easier to open another business. thanks, Ihab

I've never done work for a client pro bono, though I've never been asked either. some rich people in the middle east and maybe india ask for free work. free first project. or to pay 1% of what you ask for. and they're loaded. I did a couple of projects for my two uncles, and asked for $100 and never got paid, and they're both millionaires (in lebanese currency). I even printed the work for him and paid from my own pocket, and I was a student with limited income. my advice don't work with uncles who don't pay. Josh1587140445
I did a Pro Bono job for a non-profit development corp., but it was one of my first jobs that were done outside of my full time job. So I used it to test the waters and to hopefully get more jobs from them.

Sawyer
There are always friends that I can do work for and I am happy to do it for free. It's when there is a dangeling carrot that I get wierded out. Or if its a client who can pay but doesn't want to. Charming. Besides its all pro bono till the check comes
