Windows 98 password

Recommended Posts

but the unregistered users can browse the local drive. i only want the registered user to access certain folder, you know. like the way win 2k did.

so, i'm not sure this win 98 can do that or not. i meant more than personalize the desktop.

anyway strat thanks for your quick reply, if you can help me further.

Blaz,

The most effective system is just purchasing a 3rd party solution which makes 98 a semi-secure OS.

A cheaper solution would be to just upgrade to windows 2000.

Do note, that windows 98 is NOT A SECURE OPERATING SYSTEM. There are many vulnerabilities and security flaws contained within it that were never fully addressed by microsoft because its considered a "consumer" OS, and thus those features were never necessary.

I'd recommend getting 98 off the machine and putting 2k on it.

Hi,

i'm not sure i can brought this topic in this forum? if I can, just want to ask anybody understand the min98 password, any way to use the PW, cause i add in the users inside but when you log-in you still can use the "esc" button to go in. Is it the way it works? or there is a setting behind.

thanks

ya, I can understand this 98 is not a secure OS, like the other family, actually I already have in mind to upgrade to 98, cause of some of the account software (that's why the boss request to be passworded, all the money things inside :) )can only run in 98 (old dos software), I have to check with the distributor whether this software can run in 2k or I need to upgrade the software as well.

strat, that's the way my account did, she passworded every files she did, cause i can't do a security option in the folder properties.

anyway, thanks for your reply and suggest.

I'll look forward to upgrade the OS.

Cheers,
