cancelling out shadows from an image

Recommended Posts

Hi all..

This is a marble material from the Barcelona Pavillion. I extracted it from an image. The problem is that I need to make the colors (illumination) even- since there is a slight shadow cast from the original image. It looks horrible when tiled in max. How do I do this in PS7 ?

if you want to get all of the texture that you have in the red square..... cut out the square in photoshop, use your polygon lasso with a feathered edge set to something lik3 20 pixels (may vary based on size of original image)... and select the area on the left and cut right through the shadow. Then its a matter or adjustingyour levels, hue/saturation, contrast, and color (file menu under "image > adjustments") ..... it can be done it'll just take some time to get it tweaked perfect

or the easier way would to be just use the right side of your sample, replicate it to create a larger sized image, and then use the stamp tool to remove the replication and make it tileable..... might want to do some mirror effects to replicate the kind of detail going on with the marble.....

notice the tiles are mirrored repeats. back home and in Italy where marble and granite is more used than othe rcountires good builders use the stones that were cut from the same block to make the veins run "continuously" or in a certain pattern.
