precise scaling

Is there any way in 3DS to scale an object or selection by a precise factor/percentage like one can in AutoCAD? I guess I could measure an object, calculate what the new measurement would be and type that in...but surely there must be a more straightforward way, especially for scaling multiple objects at once?
