kris
I have to make sunstudy in 3dsmax but I dont understand what "Daylight Saving Time" means. I type position of building in San Francisco, date and time, but when I turn "Daylight Saving Time" option, the sun moves and I dont know whats correct, with or without it. Msamir
It means moving the time an hour forward or backward , here in egypt the time moves an hour forward in the summer and an hour later in the winter to decrease the time of consuming electricity during the day in the summer because it becomes hot and the usage of fans and air conditioners increases. kris
So do I have to check that or not for San Francisco.
jackb602
San Francisco, like nearly all of the US, observes Daylight Savings Time. Jack

wasteland giant
bump* same rule applies but for sydney. Not quite sure what to do here. Do I leave it on just for the entire sunstudy setup (march/june/decemeber)... or do I have to turn it on/off like how we roll back our clocks manually? Can't seem to find any information anywhere on how this works. Getting sort of conflicting advice from people. we have daylight savings in NSW australia. GordonHo
well its a simple rule: if you're currently in daylight saving time, turn it one. if you're not, turn it off. instead you could also change the time manually by your current daylight saving time offset. the point behind this: to calculate the sun position, the software needs to know the current time at the location you've pointed it to. that said the time is an offset to utc (which does not have dst and hence is a very good reference). but the software does not know wether you're on dst and it needs to add 1 hour more or less to the utc offset. so basically this means, you tell the software with the button how the entered time is interpreted
wasteland giant
just found a document here: http://www.cubproject.com.au/PDFs/X%20Solar%20Access%20to%20Apartments%20Discussion%20-%20COX-ATA.pdf relevant to sydney and according to their june21st analysis (and verified) was max's settings, for june 21st for sun azimuth/time.. , I shouldn't change it to daylight savings. ... *google search term = "sun angle for june 21st 9am sydney" so.. this is still kind of confusing. Going to use that as a reference and then point a finger that way.
