  1. Hi Kornel, do you mean the text dissapears and reappears? if so this is usually a graphics card memory problem,
  2. Looks like a bit of fun with the Symmetry modifier. your over all shape looks like a dodecahedron (12 sides) made up of triangles and squares which has a cross shape within. so I'd start with the squares and the tri's will sort themselves out. 90deg rotation from the corner of the square on the Symmetry mirror. switching between world and local on the Ref Corrd Sys drop down is going to be your friend here. chamfer the joints at the end to get he welds in. Attached is a Max file that may better explain what I'm talking about, but just guessed on the size. EDIT, - I did not join the corners of the square properly, this might cause issues for the weld. Good luck Hugh Shade.zip
  3. There might be newer ways to do it, but if you are placing it into a render, do a version with no glass and with glass then mask the reflection pass on top of the person.
  4. Hi Taking and bit of an R&D day today and decided to have a look at Containers, I'm currently using X-Refs to manage complex scenes and wondering if many people have made the switch and what the benefits are? Hugh
  5. Frustrating but vray doesn't multithreaded displacement, as a work around I have isolated the displacement object and rendered separately, photoshop it in post.
  6. I see a lot of potential here, first the overall composition needs tweeking, what would happen if you raised the camera or angled it up, I see a hint of a roof line coming toward us on the right, you might be able to create a more interesting framing with that, and loose some of the foreground concrete in the process. Have you considered making this a dusk shot, I think some interior lights would draw the eye into the centre of the image and create more interesting reflections?
  7. Lots of free tutorials out there for char modeling, a good resource is www.3dtotal.com though the ones Dean mentioned are very good and relatively inexpensive. Probaly the most important thing is good referance, something like what you can find on http://www.3d.sk/ , but nothing stopping you taking your own.
  8. I hope the Scottish government have a slightly more enlightened attitude for supporting start-ups than here in England as most of the funding has being cut here in the North East. The Regional Development Agency for Scotland would be your best place to start; http://www.scottish-enterprise.com/
  9. Sorry res on my screen is low, so I cannot see the yellow lines, but by the sounds of it you want to use a Extrude modifyer on the spline not a Edit Poly.
  10. Very nice script, takes a bit of processing power, but easily managed results similar to the video. I have not got as far as the texture baking, which I think will be essential for any larger scene I seem to have a scale problem, where it creates each block at 5mm. and was not resolved with empirical What would be nice is if the displacement procedural maps were instanced so it would be easy to change the pattern on the whole wall in one go rather than having to change each block individually I have a project coming up in a few weeks that I plan to use this for. I will follow up then
  11. I use onyx trees to generate vegetation with good results, though it does take a bit of work to get them the way you want. If you want out of the box realism then Evermotion do a good range of realistic 3d plants
  12. Ummm 2011, started off loving it, now find it really frustrating and moving back to 2010. too many quirks; hangs on simple tasks like opening the material editor, the drop down menus disappear and crashes on simple edit poly tools like chamfer edge. I really hope the new hotfix sorts some of this out.
  13. top left of the viewport, should say camera view or left or right.... smooth and highlighted or wireframe...... right click on this and select Flat from the popup menu
  14. Simple answer is no, you might consider using the revit model to render in max, both mental ray and quicksilver in Revit dont have the same flexibility as they do in Max and render slower.
  15. we use render nation for very large renders and animations. really great service, they always manage to fit us in even at the last minute. good rates based on processing times http://www.rendernation.com/index.php
