  1. Its been a while, but thank you very much for sharing your thoughts and info.
  2. Thanks for your reply. It all comes down to the project hours. In my case we are only hired to do a "photomontage". There are time, were the scope is much larger and we have uses laserscan data and drove imagery.
  3. Gentleman thank you. I thought of those workflows too. I was hoping they could be bypassed and the whole thing done directly in 3dsmax.
  4. Hi guys, I just wanted to see if anyone had any ideas. Thanks
  5. Folks, I have a good maps image of a project site in which I am locating a point of interest I need to model in 3d (to scale) and look at from different angles (typical zoning visualization stuff). In the past we would just use photoshop to fake everything. But today I am thinking that we can use 3dsmax to build some site elements, include the point of interest (model) and render some views from pre-determined locations usually to match a set of photos and some post integration. In my mind I should be able to inset a site image form google maps and give it real scale and go form there. Outside if doing this in autocad and trace some lines in hope to importing a full scale CAD background, can we bring a JPG into 3dsmax and scale it based on a know reference? Thanks
  6. Gentleman, I have been out of the loop for a while and recently been asked to produce some exterior renderings. To me adding trees and flowers has always been a pain point as a result of not having the appropriate libraries etc. The company I work for is willing to invest in content so what I a plus. We are not a viz company, we are an architectural design firm. We do not have a visualization specialist in house. Rather most architects like myself needs to be able to general a rendering. With all the said, there isn't much time for modeling trees. We aren't using 3dsmax. We are using cloud rendering from autodesk through Revit at the moment and some photoshop. In addition, we are asked by the client to follow the Landscape Architecture drawings... so we really can't make up foliage too much, and this has been another paint point int the past. 1-I am interested to know how you guys deals with these issues? What do you do when the landscape plans calls out for a ponciana tree and you don't have it. 2-Do you model or use 3d plants? or add them post? if so, can you please recommend a good company that make plans? I have looked at Dosch.. but I am not convinced.
  7. I got a e-mail back from onyx. They are still in business. From speaking to a coworker who owns it, we realize that onyx produces trees that are a bit more "correct" that the other parametric modelers.
  8. Thank you for your help guys. your comments and specially adding foliage has added to the quality of the render. Regarding people, we have tried to use RPC's but they don't look good. I see many rendering with great people added. Are they best added in the rendering or in Photoshop? Can someone recommend a library that I can look into ? I am going to cancel my RCP subscription.
  9. Jack, I was reading about the AO pass. Essentially I am mapping the ambient/reflective occlusion map to the diffuse of an A&D material. Then render the image and multiply it in photoshop?
  10. I am considering in vesting in their software. Based on what I have seen out of it, it looks very powerful. However I have written e-mails and called their phone, they onine shopping page does not work and the last update was a for Max 2013. I know they are small company but by the same I wonder if they are "dead" as a result of speedtree or xfrog. I am looking for a nice inexpensive tool. Is there anything else out there I should consider? Thanks
  11. Thank, I was doing something else. I did notice I have to collapse the mesh after the xform. But it work, that you.
