  1. Is it a dodgy copy of Max 2011? Try reinstalling it and downloading the lastest patches from autodesk
  2. have you set the renderer to maxwell in Render Setup - Assign Renderer? Do the objects show up with smooth & highlights turned on?
  3. As said above, you'll need to use a displacement map and use a Sweep modifier on a spline drawn around the top of your room. However you might have very slow render times with a disp map. I'd model a small piece of it completely (with all surface features), then just copy that piece over and over.
  4. use a Vray blend material, it's ideal for what you need
  5. Try rendering the image in 2 chunks using Crop or Region I've used that in the past for huge scenes that wont normally render all at once
  6. Open the textures of the plants and turn off the reflection and refraction of the leaves. Also make sure you turn the bump maps off (unless close to the camera) Try exporting them as and reloading them in the scene as vray proxies. Like someone said above, turning off generate GI is a good idea. Also turn on the image proxy system under File - Asset Tracking, to reduce the size of your scene texture (by 50% or whatever you want) finally, have a look at the materials in the scene and make sure they are ALL vray materials. as standard materials can kill renders
  7. I think the author of the indian forum post has mistaken refract IOR for fresnel IOR (in the reflect section, activated when you check fresnel reflections) Refract IOR will do nothing if the refract colour is set to 0,0,0
  8. are you rendering in the vray render frame?
  9. can you just render a reflection pass on the glass and paint out the unwanted reflection?
  10. i have the same problem with poly editing... i just convert it to a mesh and then weld the verts. always seems to work.
  11. or build one section of curved cornicing and then array it to make the semicircular shape
  12. what type of scene are you trying to use the dirt map on? you have to make sure you're not using the same colour for occluded and unoccluded, also check the scale you're using. If the scene is only 1m across and you're using the default radius of 10m, you're not going to see any effects.
  13. Could be Portland Stone under all that gack. have a look at http://www.cgtextures.com
  14. nice looking scene. You could add more detail to the windows and window openings. Maybe some glazing system detail. Also, the chairs don't look great. Some nicer, more detailed chairs would improve things no end.
  15. I've seen far worse rendering than that to be honest... but I suppose being critical of your own work spurrs you on to be better. I'd be a bit more careful with the colour palette (green walls?!) and add some more detail to the floor, as said above, flare out the window a lot more. I think part of your problem is that the scene isn't that exciting... maybe you're comparing it to more interesting designs. Think about doing a lot more work in photoshop too. Using the curve editor in photoshop or afterEffects will add depth and contrast. Your work looks very good to me anyway!
