lambros
Hi there, your modelling is good, but the image looks a bit flat. What software are you using? Did you apply any GI? Texturing is ok, but it would surely look much better with proper lighting.
Ian P
I agree it looks very flat, Using max 5, forgive my ignorance but not sure what GI is?,will it help give some depth? Thanks for replying
lambros
GI stands for Global Illumination. Max has two built-in GI solutions: one is lightracer (use a skylight, and add Lightracer to the Advanced Lightning Rollout in Render settings) and the other is radiosity. Radiosity can be used with any kind of lights, requires a pre-calculation which takes some time, and renders the effect of light bouncing on and off surfaces. Later editions of max have mental ray integrated, which can be used for Global Illumination, but requires lots of experimentation and practice to get decent results. Try max's help, or do the tutorials, they will clarify things!
Ian P
Ahh, Yes sorry I tried that first off (Didn't get the abbreiviation, Its been a long day), am trying spots in a dome array at the moment as this will be an animation and I can't have big render times.any tips on similar lighting without huge render times?? ecastillor
If you use radiosity, once the calculation is donde, the frames are actually pretty fast....i would say faster than fakiosity...(light dome)
