As i said Victor is responisble for all that crap.

And the announchment maid me laugh.

He actually said nothing. Nothing at all.

As popart said, ambiguous is his middle name.

One thing is certain. I will never make business with them again.

I'm an impartial observer here as I don't have Maxwell although I've tried it and find it fascinating. I'm glad it's remained cool-headed :)

I think NL have done what many similar firms would have done. We all know they're beavering away trying to do what they said they would have done already. It happens-a lot. Of course they're not going to shout about it.

Put yourself in their position. Would you reply to disgruntled customers voicing their opinion on public forums? I wouldn't and I wouldn't have to.

They should be responding to individual complaints but, as I said above, they're almost definitely in a state of panic trying to get their product out. A product which, by the way, they are well aware has tantalised an entire industry. Poor PR won't affect them too much in light of that fact.

As for refunds, what did the purchase dialogue/license agreement say about that?

For the refund it said nothing.

At that time, i was buying maxwell, i had the best faith in them.

So i was not thinking for refunds.

In the license they wrote their obligations.

What can i do if they dont keep their promises? Kill them? I guess not

So what?

This was posted today by Victor.

Hi all Maxwell friends. We are getting closer to the release date and our team is in good health working really hard on Maxwell 1.0. We keep the 22th as THE date. Please keep in mind that the server can slow down dramatically if all people try to reach the files at the same time. We suggest waiting some hours if the server keeps busy.

Let me add some snapshots about the features you will soon have in your hands.

The render engine has been dramatically improved in terms of performance. This was the first priority to reduce absurd long times and has been a major achievement for the development team. In simple scenes, the render time will be similar to the current beta version, but in others, especially in complex scenes (those that you are looking for), the performance boost will be serious (we expect to reach a 10x peak). In many situations were noise would require days to remove, it will happen in a few hours. The complexity of the scene will have a low impact on the performance of the new engine. Unlimited number of emitters will be allowed without loss of performance.

The new material editor will also provide a next level of realism. It is not just about the physical models that we have been featuring in the beta version. New materials are powerful allowing to make unlimited coatings outwards the core BSDF and SSS layers too. There are other features here that will let us create new materials never seen before.

We will keep adding feedback about Maxwell 1.0 and, of course, screenshots, in the next days. The beta team will provide examples very soon.

Thanks for all your patience.

I'm more than a little disappointed by this announcement, we wanted 8 days for Victor to tell us that the final version was going to be faster than the beta and we would be able to create materials. Don't get me wrong I'm glad that he finally spoke up and said something but I honestly expected a more detailed explanation about what has happened that moved the release date along with a point by point description of what features we would be getting. He really didn't say any more than what is already presented on their web site, he just reworded it to make it sound better.

As i saw earlier, they banned another poor user, cause he complained about that too :)

come on buffos, stop that. sorry to jump in like this, but this is too funny.

this poor user (you know him quite well, don't you?) has been banned because he started insulting forum administrators and users along with them. you got banned because you called the developers thieves on their own board, what else could you expect?

you and this other poor user didn't get banned because you were complaining, but because of the way of doing it.

basically under these circumstances, i would certainly not buy any more licenses. I intented to buy about 10 more (to use pc's in my office for animations) but i wont give them a single dollar.

How can i give money to them?

And i am rather pessimistic to what we will see.

Let me tell you what the 10x increase means.

The SSS was clearly at pre-aplha stage. It can be boosted 10x for sure.

If you see , he says it nicely as always. Old scenes would are as fast as they where. When you will ask him in the future, i am pretty sure, he will point to scenes with sss. So i dont expect any speedup to scenes that could be addressed before june 15.

Yea I thought it was kind of strange that he said that relatively easy and uncomplicated scenes would not be any faster but that more complex scenes would be 10X faster. I'm not sure how that works but if he is saying that things like glass and SSS which now take 100 hours to clear up will in the future take 10 hours that makes since.

Yeah, I'm *very* skeptical of the speed claims. No doubt they'll soon start showing images with render times (1.0 vs beta), but I've been through that silliness with them before.

I'm glad that it seems as if they're getting close to release, but I really think it makes sense to approach everything coming from NL with a healthier-than-usual dose of skepticism. The only real proof will be in the using of the (hopefully) finished product.

Is it accidental, that they dont talk about known bugs?

Clipmaps? Fog? Did they solve those?

I imagine a post postponing them for 1.x versions.

What i am pretty sure, is that we wont have a working version soon.

So the question to myself is. What do i do?

Wait for vray (does anyone know if he is close to release?) or make my own rendering engine :)

The latter requires a lot of time, and i prefer to spend it otherwise :)

  • 2 weeks later...

No word yet, but Next Limit is famous for waiting till the last minute before they change their release date. I am a little worried because the weekly updates have not included any information on features or what the GUI will look like. Mainly all we've seen is how fast the new 1.0 engine can remove noise as opposed to the beta engine. I don't understand why they haven't shared any other information with us, at this point what do they have to loose?

I actually believe them this time, but I'm pretty gullible, and I still wouldn't be surprised at another delay. It would probably involve an email that goes something like this:

"Dear Fiercely Loyal Customer:

Congratulations, you are among the chosen ones who will experience HISTORY IN THE MAKING when Maxwell 1.0 is released on January 15th. We have decided to reveal the release date to our customers now so that you can plan your parties, religious ceremonies and other forms of celebration well in advance.

Over the months to follow, we will release just enough information to keep you interested without getting into specifics, except to say that Maxwell 1.0 will revolutionize every aspect of our society...."
