The correct learning method for 3D CAD Design

 

The 3D CAD program was designed to create 3D objects;

therefore your first step into the world of 3D should be a simple project.

Learning Mathematics has a lot in common with learning 3D CAD,

You can learn features one at a time for as long as you like.

When you work with multiple features in mathematics they work under special

conditions, the conditions and rules changes as the combination changes.

3D CAD works the same way.

The more different projects you get involve with, the better 3D CAD Designer

you become / the more mathematical problems you solve the better mathematician

you become.

 

Very important Note: You only learn and practice features directly needed

to your project, this is the only way to make real progress.

The following is not a tutorial, it indicate the correct stages of creation,

and the features you have to manage to complete the project.

If you are new to 3D CAD and Rhino, it will take you few months to manage

all the features and to create the 3D simple model as indicated below,

if you try to do it on your own.

Following good tutorials with technical illustration, you can do it in few minutes to

few hours.

 

01: Select project and view

1. Select modest, small, and very simple test project, simple cup is very good idea.

2. Should the completed cup be in vertical position when completed?

If yes, select side or front view to start your project.

Your first feature to study is Views because it is directly needed for the project.

02: Create a Center Line, based on the cup height, 4” Long.

1. Set the screen Grid, as needed.

2. Ortho should be active, to insure straight line.

3. Snap can be on or off, on is better.

4. Create line, correct icon selection.

5. Activate the Analyze toolbar, for quality control check.

6. Dimensions set up, size and style as needed.

7. Start the line at 0,0,0 location, the intersection between X and Z axis (red and Green)

03: Start horizontal line, from the bottom of Center line, to the left, 1.5” long

1. Copy the center line to the end of the horizontal line.

2. At the intersection, copied line and horizontal line create a fillet .375.

3. Offset the join curves, before and after the fillet, .188 to the center.

04: Create a bridge line, at the top of the original and the offset curve

1. Create fillet on each end of the bridge, it should be a little smaller then .094,

Fillet radius of .090 is good.

2. When you click on the profile, once only, the inside and outside shape should be

fully highlighted, now it is one join section, it is complete, ready for revolve.

3. Chang to Perspective view.

4. Revolve the Profile to create the simple cup

I visited your site and it looks very nice.

A small comment on your comment, You are not a 3D CAD user, in the same way as i am, and your comment is correct, with a modest change, you jump in as you mentioned, but with a modest project, because doing 3D as I'm doing, there is unlimited ways of doing wrong or doing right, it is very far of black and white, it is like standing in an intersection with thousands of possibilities, when you are new to 3D CAD.
