Auditorium People

Hey guys,

I'm currently working on a project that involves a large concert hall which will need to be populated. I imagine the best way to do this would be to get four or five people to come to a concert with me with cameras to take pictures from various angles to composite later but does anyone know if there is anywhere I can buy such people already?

Thanks

Depends on your budget really. I know Archvision's RPCs get a bad rap sometimes and I'm not a big fan generally, but they would probably be easiest in terms of set-up. You basically place a helper object at each of your seats then you can randomise the distribution of each person in the scene as well as specifying the number of empty seats etc. They will automatically render at the correct angle depending on their position relative to the camera, but make sure you have plenty memory if going for this option as they are very memory intensive.

There are other options obviously but they will require a lot more work in terms of placement, whether in max or photoshop.

Edit: They also do animated applauding peeps if that's your kinda thing! http://www.archvision.com/ContentDetails.cfm?BundleID=25-14100&Category=1&Dimension=2.5&LocationID=3

Yeah, they look good in animations as you can see here: http://www.archvision.com/images/animations/seat.mpg

The only thing is that it has to load all characters in the scene into memory before each frame is rendered, obviously to calculate the viewing angle for each person. This can add a lot to your render times. Individually placing 3d people or image planes, or even photoshopping a whole auditorium full of people sounds more of a pain to me though..

you might find some at our webpage http://www.epictor.com

though how many will depend much on the camera position and the concert type.

the idea of taking pictures aint bad - at least if you got a good camera and the concert hall enough light to shoot the people.

in any case it could be helpfull to place the closest ppl as 'real' entourage footage, and use some dummy brushes to post paint the crowd.

I think you should check out http://www.filmvaultstudios.com

I have a friend who makes low-budget commercials. They get their actors from this website.

You might find your actors/auditorium audience there.

Good luck!

Thanks Lexter, i think we've worked it out that you are a fan of filmvaultstudios.com Are you on some kind of commission scheme with them???

Thanks for all of your comments guys. They were very helpful. Although that particular project has been finished now! I ended sourcing lots of photos of stadiums and photoshopping them into the images. Useful tips for dealing with animation though! Will know for next time. Thanks.

Yes and no.

Yes, I also hangout at their website. I enjoy playing with their compositor. I love film and video and learning about making them.

No, I am not on a commission scheme with them. My firm don't make renders so we don't use their clips. I just learned about them from a friend in advertising.

I'm sorry if I appear to be spamming. I guess I was just excited about this new forum, it's my first day here. I was just excited to be sharing something new. I guess I'll just try to avoid similar topics next time.
