Motiva RealCamera is a free postproduction tool developed by Motiva that tries to mimic the exposure effects caused by some real cameras and films based on the research of the Computer Vision Laboratory of the Columia University. All the processes are made by the GPU, and that guarantees the maximun speed.

This app will be integrated to iTech-project our realtime 3d engine and into Motiva COLIMO (new version of Motiva SOAP) that will be released after finding a publisher for our tutorial "Rebuiliding Motiva COLIMO to understand the CG Theory".

To know more about this, please look at the video.

Thanks for the like. I downloaded it, and only briefly tested it. My inclination is that I would want levels and curve controls also. But still interesting potential.

I had a conversation with Ernest B. a few years ago about film profiles that could be applied images to better simulate what an image would feel like if it is was shot with specific film. Ever since that point I have kept my eye out, hoping to see profiles that I could apply in Photoshop.

Actually, it would be nice if this ran as a Photoshop plug-in so that it could easily be incorporated into work flows, rather than being ore of a separate step of launching a different app. Maybe you guys have a larger goal in mind of creating a unique production work flow, but being able to do this inside of PS will be powerful for a lot of users.

One of the weakest points of a large number of Arch Viz images is the tone mapping of the image vs. the tone mapping of the entourage people that are being placed in the images. Tone mapping your image to be closer to the people is easier in many cases than trying to manually color grade the people to be close to the image. If that makes sense.

Anyway, I am working on a set of images now, so I may play more with this later in the week.

Thanks for this Japi. I really like the concept and its kind of like a one click solution for altering your tonemapping. For me this has good points and less good points... Firstly it would be nice if it worked with 16bit tiffs which is what i tend to work with as converting down to an 8bit jpeg or png is a bit worrying for editing purposes, especially if it needs more tweaking in PS. Im only on CS2 at work which doesnt seem to like .exr so maybe in CS4 this is less of an issue. The workflow is also slightly odd for me as I would choose to do all my editing and balancing in PS first and then when i put it through the realcamera software it all changes again so what im seing in PS is not really how its going to finish up.

But its another useful artistic tool, there is a good range of films (almost too many) that have a nice effect and it's quite straight forward to use. It would be nice to have a reset button for the gamma functions so when we make a new preset (once we've filled all the slots) we dont have to manually reset each slider. I must say that because they are mimicing film types then a lot of them seem to look more oldfashinoned as we are more used to neutral digital images these days! But useful for adding a bit of attitude into the image and can make it stand out. I think Fryrender is getting a similar function in its next SP release but I do like the idea of changing the whole image after people have been added etc I guess its just going to take a bit of getting used to and perhaps raining in the PS tonemapping and leaving it to realcamera.

Thanks again, I think i will definately throw a few renders in there after Ive finshed all my PS work and see what comes out!

Thanks Japi, this really is a great tool, love it. Would be great if you could also plug it into after effects. Also curves as mentioned before would be a nice addition. What would be really useful would be a decent glare and bloom function with appeture and obsticle maps like Fry and Maxwell....

Cheers
