nisus
Hi all, Does anyone knows a technique on replacing a group of objects by a dummy object for faster calculation of reflections? Basicly I want to accomplish the following: I want to be able to render full objects, but when reflections are calculated I want these objects/groups be replaced by a dummy object - a textured plane would be best - so that rendering calculations are much faster. Does anyone has a clue on this? The basic idea of speedtree or bionatics - replace the model by a serie of bitmaps - might be useful to investigate for these kind of savings. Why do I want something like this? When more renderers are capable of doing blurred reflections I think it makes no sense at all, that the program uses the full object or these calculations. Even sharp reflections can benefit from this idea too, as most humans can't see when a reflection is 100% correct or not. The case is most often one of reflections or not, instead of correct or incorrect reflections. What do you think of this idea btw? rgds nisus
plastic
well, simply turn off the 'visible to reflection' object property flag for the objects you don't want to be reflected. and turn off all other visibility flags for the dummy objects, while leaving the reflection flag on...
