UV Mapping around curved edge..

Hi There hope someone can help me out :)

I am creating a herringbone pattern paved area for a project and want it to have a nice bricked edge around the outside.

I want to do this with UV mapping but cant think how I could make it work

Is there a way to have maybe a single brick texture mapped around the edge and have it fit around the nice curves I want to create? Or is there a better recommended method for doing something like this?

Many Thanks!!

Apply a sweep modifier to your border spline then set it to 'bar' with the correct dimensions for your brick. Set up a soldier course texture map from your existing brick texture in photoshop and apply this to your border object. You're probably best to work in 'real world dimensions' for your UVs. This way you can accurately size your texture maps in the material editor and then just make sure you have checked the boxes in your sweep modifier named 'Gen. Mapping Coords.' and 'Real-world Map Size'.

Ive used the sweep modifier and its starting to work, Im struggling to create equal sized brick faces around the spline I assume this is something to do with the spline rather than the sweep parameters?

How can I change the interpolation of the original spline so that each segment is the same size even round the corners? atm its getting 'bunched up' around curves even when I uncheck optomize and adaptive. Would you draw the spline in a different way?

Apologies I know this is pretty basic stuff!!

Are you talking about the brick map getting stretched as it curves round corners or that the sweep modifier is getting messed up due to vertices being too close together?

If it's the first then the map will get stretched at either the top or bottom depending on the curvature of the spline. You either live with that or use the spacing tool to actually space brick objects around the spline instead which would give you regular sized bricks and irregular mortar joints. You could also then re-use the spline to make your mortar.

If it's the second thing then applying a Normalise Spline modifier first will allow you to specify the spacing between vertices and will sort out any problems.

My sweep modifier was messed up because of the spline interpolation, I have used the normalize spline modifier and its fixed my problem, the bricks are nice and evenly spaced round the border now.

The spacing tool sounds interesting Ill have to look into that one for future projects where I have a similiar problem , sounds like it could give a more realistic feel.

Thanks for your help! :D
