Hi there,

I'm working for some architectural projects, and something that I really would to work on is archaeology. For example, reconstruct old temple with computer images/animations, etc, with the real materials, etc etc. Could be very motivating working on such project.

So, any idea of who could have needs like this ? Or maybe some of you ever working on such project that I could help ?

Thanks,

Kib

Following are a few sites you might want to check out:

isprs is primarily european based geomatics site and tends towards the 'science' of 3d modelling rather than the 'art'

learning sites is US based and focuses on archaeology / museum type work

kent larson link is on an old (1999) CSA site that talks about Kent Larson's work modelling Lou Kahn's unbuilt work.....BTW the cover image on the Lightscape manual is based on this work

Center for the Study of Architecture/Archaeology is a good site if you're interested in doing more than 'pretty pictures'

sabry el-hakim is a Canadian NRC site primarily about image based modelling

Hope this is close to what you're looking for and should get you started. It's an important and an emerging field that requires a fair amount of 'research' and 3D data capture techniques on which to base modelling.

Here is another link that you mght find interesting:

Richard Levy (also featured in the article above) has done quite a bit of work in this area. His site for his work on the Phimai temple can be found here: http://www.phimai.ca/

Also, check out the interview with him in the UpClose section of the site.

Funny, that Richard, David Whiting (dwhiting) and myself are all from Calgary...

Also check out these sites as they are manufacturers for 3D laser imaging scanners used on many of these projects.
