guys, this is my first post...and i am not into architecture very much :) but i need your help with some vray material creation..

i think you guys are familiar with arroway textures...that are very huge collection...but can you help me to use them with vray...

actually i don't understand the settings explained in the PDF catalog

there is something like this with stonework number 19

D 100% , B 30% , S 100%

R | P

how do we translate that into Vray material?

how do we change the glossiness and reflection and specular settings?

You should have three maps: diffuse, specular and bump.

Diffuse map goes into your diffuse slot with the map strangth set to 100%

Spec map goes into both the reflection slot (at 100%) and the RGlossiness slot (at 50%)

Bump map goes into the bump slot (at 30%)

The 20mm refers to if you wanted to apply a Vray Displacement modifier. You would then plug in the bump map and set the displacement height to 20mm.

You can also play around with the strength of the reflection and glosiness maps though to achieve different looks. Sometimes I also set a global glosiness value under the regular reflection rollout too in addition to using the spec map.

thanks,

and what about the the values of reflect, Hgloss, Ggloss and IOR?

like the default values are as you know is 1.0 for reflection and glossiness and 1.65 for IOR, should i change them ?

Should i enable furness reflection or whatever it is?

are you talking about the values of MAPS drop down panel ?

Yes, I'm talking about the value of the number spinners next to the Map slots. To be honest I never change the IOR from the default but I think for something like concrete it should be more like 1.2. Like I said, if you have the reflection and glossiness maps set to a value less than 100% then you can also have some control over the overall reflection and glossiness by using the colour swatch and reducing the value from 1.0 to something less.

HGlossiness controls the glossiness of specular highlights i.e. reflections of direct light sources in your scene. Again this is something I don't bother with too much unless something's causing a problem.

I finally understood most of the letters in arroway catalogue, what they mean and I how I should use them.

But... in the concrete catalog I found under the diffuse map the letter T. I guess that this means that the map is tilled.

I am confused about the letter R under the bump map.

Does anyone know what this letter means???
