vincent_icon
Hi there! I'm using Softimage to light up this scene. There's a physical sun as primary light and an hdr image as fill light. As you can see, there is a strange very dark area on the cilling of the 1st floor, and some very bright areas both on 1st and ground floor. But that dark area is getting on my nerves, because is waaay to dark. I can't fix it. Or is it the way light should behave? Some advice and help please? Thanks in advance! absolute3d
Keep adding some model details and then focus on materials behaviour and lighting setup, it's a good start for a first exterior scene don't worry
jinsley
post your render settings. That would be a good start.
frank1331
It looks like your primary light isn't bouncing deep into the model. Not sure of your settings. Thats all I can tell from the images.

Tommy L
The first image in your first post makes me think the ground plane is too small to bounce any light up under the eaves.
vincent_icon
Humm i've tried that, no good... there's no need for global illumination to be on right? this only happens on the opposite side of the sun. Do i need to emit photons like an interior scene? this really is starting to annoy =\
Tommy L
I dont use this software, but yes, I would think GI needs to be switched on, you ned some kind opf calculation for bounced light.
pixelperfectg
here are the settingsI don't know much about using XSI so don't put much weight into this post but in looking at your settings I'm curious about the "0" Diffuse trace depth setting. If that controls the FG diffuse/eye rays then perhaps increasing it (2 or 3) would help add bounced 'light'.
Ismael
Not familiar with program but would guess "hdr image as fill light" is where the issue is... In all areas not under direct sunlight and its bounces, it is the secondary, skylight, fill light, ambient light; whatever it is or is called, that is the dominant light. vincent_icon
Hey there! Happy new year! Ok thanks for all your replies! pixelperfectg hit the spot! I'm curious about the "0" Diffuse trace depth setting. If that controls the FG diffuse/eye rays then perhaps increasing it (2 or 3) would help add bounced 'light'. I just raised it to 1 and it did it, the bounced light was like multiplied. Many thanks for the help! To all! Here is the result Any more changes I should make to make it better overall? thanks! ^^
jinsley
If jeff was right then I would push it past 1 to 2 or 3 like Jeff suggested so you are getting secondary and tertiary bounces also... it will help give a smoother solution.
