HELP - max files not saving properly!

Hi All,

Got a wee problem with my .max files saving. Some of them are taking in excess of 5 minutes to save.

A new file saves quickly as normal, but after I merge it with other .max files it takes progressively longer and longer (depending on how many times I merge with the other files, and which ones I merge). I need to merge with these other files to get props, materials, lighting etc.

It looks as if max is looking for links that may have become lost, but under asset tracking everything is either "found" or "ok".

The files are anywhere between 15 and 50MB.

Does anyone know where to start?

Help!

I had a similar problem recently. I merged the file into a new file bit by bit. Saving each time until I found the dodgy object that was causing the problem.

I usually split my file in to separate files and reference them together. That way if there is a problem with one of the files it easier to track down

Time to troubleshoot...

1) Make sure everything says OK, an nothing says found. Found means it is searched directory paths until it found a name match.

2) What happens if you over write all of the materials so it has no textures? Does it still take awhile?

3) What happens if yo convert everything to an editable poly and then save, does it still take awhile?

Hey Crazy Homeless Guy, I found the solution - it can be found at this thread: -

http://forums.cgarchitect.com/61106-long-saving-time-3ds-max.html

It requires running Maxscript, but that was easy enough. Dont know what it does, it did the job. My "corrupted" files now take seconds to save, as opposed to minutes. Thx All.

that's the same script I posted in the other thread if you need something a bit more polished.
