RyderSK
I don't call them that...but it's term frequently used on this forum. Well, first look at these new WONDERFUL!! images from MIR. Stunning isn't it ? I loved them before, but now I am simply fascinated. Except for Architecture itself, almost ZERO 3D was used. And the result is fantastic, it's not unfinished, blurry like Luxigon and alikes, it's just...like perfectly painted picture. Not to be a copycat....but we are all copycats to certain extent in this industry, I decided to learn this properly. There are literally thousands tutorials for modelling,rendering...but like ZERO for quality collage or photomanipulation intended for archviz. I am sure matte paintings techniques are the same, but still. What good tutorials do you guys know about ? Or which matte painting tutorials seems to be the best ? The Gnomon ones.. ? and which ? Second question, where would one start building photo collection, references, etc... all the photo banks are absurdly overpriced (in my opinion, please, don't discuss this topic, edit = ).... ) Apart from cgtextures, texturepilot, what are some good places ? Lastly, how do guys feels about those pictures ? Edited January 14, 2012 by RyderSK
Tommy L
I'd disagree that photo libraries are over-priced, if you want to build a library there's no reason you should pick up another persons life's work for peanuts...you always have the option of putting in the hours yourself, learning photography, buying the equipment, doing the processing then cataloging your work to be your own private resource. Would you then sell it for cheap? The MIR work is indeed fabulous.
RyderSK
Maybe I should edit my original post. Everytime I insert emotional statement, people catch me by word and argue :- ). Let's discuss the alternatives ? Edited January 14, 2012 by RyderSK

Let's discuss the alternatives ? I dont mean to sound abrasive. I just know lots of photographers!
RyderSK
I dont mean to sound abrasive. I just know lots of photographers! Haha no problem, it's me who creates unneccesary conflicts :- ). I guess that's propably good for you, I know single one, and I plan to bother her to teach me pretty soon, in exchange for 3D teaching.

I've actually read both of those long time ago :- ). What I would LOVE to see is single MIR image breakdown. The lately posted tutorial from Snowflakes is perfect, but not on their level. Vegetation manipulation, light altering, the workflow. I will have to experiment myself anyway, but all the tutorials available for modelling and rendering sped my learning process by 10times at least.
