stayinwonderland
So I have this lofted shape, nothing too complex, but because of its curves, nothing lines up along the edges. Here's the UVs I came up with, they're tidy and nicely ordered but the chequered pattern looks crap. But I can't think of how else to order the UV mesh. Any tips? erkutacar
well ive created the same model and applied checker map to it and it tiles perfectly with simple uvw map modifier.. why do u have to unwrap it?
stayinwonderland
I explored all the basic UVW types and they stretch in places. Didn't you find that? I gave up and just made a procedural texture instead which works ok but I'm not sure how you got a decent tile by default. Maybe you could post a screen shot? Tommy L
maybe try welding your seams wherever possible. This will create a continuous surface rather than an exploded object.
stayinwonderland
Well, if we're talking about the same thing, I couldn't weld certain seems because the object tapers, so I have a horizontal edge and as I go higher the next edge is smaller, so when unwrapped they start to overlap. As you can see in that octagon on the right, if i'd have welded inward, they next level of surfaces would be on top of each other.

stayinwonderland
That's bizarre. I tried everything to get that. Which UVW type did you use? Maybe it's my geometry or something.
erkutacar
first one is box with real world map size and second one is face map
erkutacar
btw i didnt give the curves with loft.. i lofted a hard edged 9 stepped loft then added edit poly and set smoothing groups then added turbosmooth by smoothing groups.. then added the uvw map.. maybe thats why its tiling properly..
