texturing a stack of books

Hi

Ive got to make a library scene that is to be animated. What I want to do to simulate the books in it is by using boxes that have a map of a stack of books on them. Problem is somehow I am not being able to pull this off (only the spines of the books which are the maps look nice the rest of the box don't look like anything).

Please does anybody have any ideas how I should go about this?

Sorry Ismael but none of the links except for the vimeo one work.

Nafisa, if the books are on a shelf and you want to use a box you would need to subdivide the box into the different book widths and then you could use extrude/chamfer to give the spines some shape. If the books are going to be prominent and seen at different angles then I would use individual books and place them. The box method really only works for books on a shelf seen at a distance where the detail isn't a factor.

Thank you Aubrey.......they are kinda prominent but again not too much. What I tried at first is texturing boxes with pictures of stacks of books & using a png for opacity. It looked nice but something looked off. I am uploading some very rough snapshots of the scene. Currently I just have colored boxes in place of the books.

Its going to be a short animation & I later plan to use moblur & DOF when compositing.

Please tell me what you think would be the best way to go about this.

If you want to do the box method you can create a small box, subdivide it and use some extrusions to get the look you want.

Here is an example of what I mean. Any books that will be shown up close I would do individual books for.

The box method doesn't take all that long, it's mostly the textures and UVW maps that will take all the time.
