William Alexander
Hidden technical question. Alexander B a while back mentioned that a MonteCarlo algorythm was used within max. Could someone explain as to which renderer it is used with? Thanks WDA
Poco
That algorythm is used by the mental ray renderer in max 6.0 (Sampling Quality Rollout -> Options -> "Lock Samples—When on, the mental ray renderer uses the same sampling pattern for every frame of an animation. When off, the mental ray renderer introduces a quasi-random (Monte Carlo) variation in the sample pattern from frame to frame. Default=on"). I dont know if "Quasi"-Monte Carlo is the same but that will be used in VRay 1.5. http://www.spot3d.com/vray/help/VRayHelp150beta/render_params_gi.htm Hopes this helps
abicalho
Lightscape used Monte Carlo Progressive Refinement Radiosity. MAX uses Stochastic Relaxation Radiosity for Radiosity. As for Light Tracer I believe it's a Monte Carlo Path Tracing algorithm. I do not know which ones are used within mental ray. -alexander
