fredjohnson
Hello I am currently working on a very large interior scene (Inside a Mall) and need to render 2400 frames of walk through animation. I am using Vray to render the scene. I already set up the scene with materials and lights. Even have a camera path that goes from one end to the other. At the moment each frame takes about 5 min. to render (1280x 720 frame size). My question is: If I scale down the whole scene 5 times or more, do I gain speed in rendering. I realize that I need to setup all lights again with lower values and re-create a new LC and IM for the scene. but before doing this (since it will take a long time) I was wondering if it will help speed up the rendering. Please let me know Regards Fred
andstef
No, I don't think so. The calculations are the same if you want the same quality, this means the same number of samples, rays etc. and 5 min/frame is not that bad
salvador
No, you don't. I'm not 100% sure, but pretty much. If you can turn down the polycount, then you will have some time savings, but not by scaling. Rendering times also depend on your materials and lights, not just geometry.
