dgull
Hi there, I've just downloaded a demo of V-Ray for Sketchup to give it a go before decided on whether to buy it or Podium. I wanted to quickly work through the manual with the use of the manual scene files of the 3 chairs, however I seem to have fallen at the first hurdle. Following the instructions and opening up 'chairs-original' and rendering the scene without modifying any v-ray settings at all gives me a very different result to that shown in the manual. I wonder if someone might have some idea what's going on. Here's an image showing the problem, left showing what should happen according to the manual, and right is the result I get. Look forward to any advice any of you might have! Many thanks, Dan
Chris MacDonald
Turn on global illumination, see if that helps. Also, i'm not familliar with the sketchup version but do you have any exposure settings? Also Vray is easily better than podium. By a long, long way. dgull
Hi Chris, Thanks for getting back to me so quickly. At this stage of the tutorial I was following, GI was supposed to be switched off. The left hand image taken from the manual had GI switched off. For your reference, this is what I'm following - http://www.scribd.com/doc/1845643/VRay-for-SketchUp-Manual - from page 10 onwards. So when I do switch on GI as they demonstrate on page 11 of the manual, things aren't much better as you can see in my next image below... As for exposure, I haven't explored that yet, because it seems to me there is something more fundamental not quite right here! Thanks, Dan
