andstef
Hello Does anybody know what material is this (the "cocoon") and if i can buy it online somewhere? thank you!
Krisztian Gulyas
I don't know, but try creating a 2 sided white (white- 220-235 i think) material and add noise to the translucency but make it white and bright grey (Maybe I'm totally wrong about the noise but the image is small and I can't really see the details). If it doesn't work, try changing the translucency and the noise map size. You'll need to play with the reflection a bit I think. If you need a close-up, I think this won't work. Corey Beaulieu
The product specs call it cocoon resin. The preview on the making of one shows a nylon looking thread being wrapped around the steel frame in a bit of a random way and then they likely paint it with an epoxy type resin. It's like a fiberglass.

andstef
the lamp I attached in the image is quite popular, you can buy it online here, I saw it in a few bars in the city, a few apartments, and there are a lot of other lamp shades made out of this material (cheaper lamps, less than 100 euro), I was thinking since it is relatively popular maybe I can buy the and experiment with it for some personal projects. beestee
Why not experiment with renderings first, assuming that you haven't.
bilderbaurendering
Hi Andrei, it is spray-on plastic coating developed around 1960. I would compare it to the spider web effect. bb
