nicolastoubia
if i use a normal plane and add a water material to it , the water looks nice and blue and crisp looking... if i modify the plane to have noise to make it look like its wavey the rendered pool water looks almost black?..happens always. Any ideas how to fix this? - using Vray and 3ds max. also for some weird reason i keep getting black all the time ...thanks for ur reply. and material used for this water....the second image is of the bump used. Sorry to be a pain guys, but I'd like to be able to produce something similar to this? http://newsletters.chaosgroup.com/nl_files/newsletter_images/newsletters_archive/04_1_11/Pool-and-Caustics580.jpg Edited April 13, 2013 by nicolastoubia
notamondayfan
Can you post what software you are using, and some screen grabs are also useful? Dean
unrinoceronte
I think this might happen because 2 faces of the plane are overllaping.... that used to happen to me. Also check the reflection refraction slot in Environment... it should be ON... if it is off, maybe that is the reason for the black color... Chris MacDonald
Firstly we need to see your material setup, otherwise all we have is guesswork. At first glance it looks like there is no refraction at all.

spencerfitch
The blue coming onto the walls will happen. Thats just how the light works, even in real life you will see this. Are you using the fresnel reflection?
