Hi guys! How are you ??

maybe i m asking to most stupid question in the universe, but i've a silly problem and i don't find the solution.

How can i get a nice straight normal orthographic view if i have, say, a non-straight façade ? it easier to watch the jpg on the attachment ;)

You just want a camera to be perfectly perpendicular on a facade that is slanted?

I would use a line to trace the slant and then extrude it. Then draw a box in somewhere in the scene. Use the Normal Align tool to align your box to your extruded line and then match you camera to the rotation of the box.

I hope that answers what you are asking.

thanks corey,

wow, i thought there was an easier and more automatic way to do that, since slanted walls are frequent. For example, with Autocad you can change the UCS in order to put your slanted facade perpendicular. I don't know if in 3DS max exists this thing, and if it's worth using it..

you can align the camera to your geometry using the camera align tool; with the tool selected click and drag from the camera to the face you want to align to.

You can get an orthographic view with a standard camera but not a vray camera (unless this has changed in the new version of vray).

If you are using vray you can still use a standard camera to render from but adjust your settings in the environment window under Exposure control.

hope this helps.

thanks, there is a really helpful plugin to convert max cameras to vray cameras that maybe you don't know ;)http://www.scriptspot.com/3ds-max/scripts/leles-vray-tools

If the orthographic views are required to work on the façade you could create an instance of the façade and rotate it to align with the world axis. Working on the instance in the orthographic views will automatically update your non straight façade.

You can get an orthographic view with a vray camera.

Play around with the zoom factor setting. You will need to adjust the camera position and move it further back from your targeted object/facade building etc. Keep adjusting both of these and you will mimic an orthographic view.
