juniorsofiati
Hello friends of CGARCHITECT!!! How are you doing? I am having some problems with huge files on 3DS Max 2012. I´ve done this small scene (that I supposed the "right size" of the file wouldn´t be more than 60...70MB...or in the worst case...100MB)...but almost all the last files of a client of mine are having this problem. I don´t know if the problem is one object or more than one. I´ve tried to merge the objects in a new file and when I just merged the FIRST object (I was trying to merge only one at a time) and I saved...the file size got 300MB. It´s really weird this file size with only one object (and this object does not have more than 50...60 polygons). I´ve done the first scene and the file got 150MB, so when I was going to start the second scene using the same first file and I´ve changed only the ceiling the file got from 150 to 300MB. I´ve read a post here from Tim Nelson about this...but I don´t know if were the same problem. Anyways, he told something about REACTOR COLLISIONS PANEL in the Utilities panel, but I didn´t find it. Anyone can help me? Thanx!!!
Scott Schroeder
Make sure you are using "compress on save" in your preferences. This helps keep file sizes down and is checked off by default. Secondly, it sounds like you might have some note tracks in the file being merged. Check out this website for more information and a fast way to remove them. It would just do it through the max script route by pasting in the code lines. The cleaner script can run really slow. http://arddigital.co.uk/remove-notetracks-from-3ds-max-scenes/

juniorsofiati
Hello Scott (if my last answer was sent hehe is "Hello again" hehehe...I am not sure if it was...anyways...) Just to let you know that your both tips worked VERY WELL!! I really have to thank you very very much because this problem was making me crazy hahaha The first thing I did was activate the option "compress on save" and right after that I saved, the file size was 150MB and after saving got 32MB...and this before I´ve cleaned the file with the script Another one was from 220MB to 1MB...this second file should have a lot of note tracks...and a lot more than the first one..just to see the size after cleaning Thanx again my friend!!! See ya!!! Junior Sofiati 3Darts http://jrsofiati.wix.com/jrsofiati
notamondayfan
Glad the script is still being put to good use although I've personally never experienced the notetracks problem since Max 2012. I thought it had been resolved in recent releases.
